The Mud Shop
The new Mud Shop opened September 28th, 2024. It was a huge accomplishment for us. My work is very textural in nature and the vision for the Mud Shop was for people to visit and pick up the cups to see for themselves. Check out some of the details that make it special.
About the Space
Building a warm, creative box
We bought 55 sheets of 1/4 inch plywood from a local lumber yard and got to work. Custom mix of stain, a rented scissor lift and within 4 days and long nights we had 24 feet of paneled wooden walls all the way up to a hanger style ceiling original to the 1950 art deco historical building.
Curated vintage furniture
I've been collecting vintage industrial metal furniture for years and we peppered it throughout the studio. Thank you Red for finding all these pieces for me. He is closing his shop in Canoga Park but still operates all over LA.
A special cupboard to hold my work
I first met Tokuhiko Kise from Truck Furniture in Osaka a couple years ago when he opened his showroom in DTLA. When I left Truck, I told myself that one day I will have a piece from him. Well, guess what people, Tok made it happen, and I am so honored to have one of his Truck Cupboards. All handmade at Truck in Osaka with Japanese Oak and hardware. It's the centerpiece of the Mud Shop, thank you Tok san.
Custom welded workshop tables
Everything is intentional here! Even the workshop tables. We built it pretty quickly on the first go around, but now I'm working with Goldghost Vintageworks out of Ojai California to custom weld some tables for my space, and to perfectly suit workshops in the future. I love patina and rough finishes, and that's what Goldghost does perfectly.
