Welcome to Summer, and to New Work

When I didn't think it could be any hotter in the studio I turn on my kiln for a glaze fire, reaching 2300º F in about 5 hours. Somehow May has gone, and June gloom has passed in LA, and the month of "S" cracks from extreme clay drying has come. (I cry)

It's been an amazing time the past few months, tons of growth and new opportunity. Not the busiest in terms of business, but thats okay. Things like this tend to eb and flow, and I genuinely welcome small moments of downtime. It's a moment for exploration and fine tuning. Less social media, more craft. Less clickbait, more quality. When I returned from Japan I promised myself to slow things down and take more time on each piece, and i'm really proud of the progress I made. Im proud to say Im really happy with each piece coming out of the kiln right now - everything from the vessel shape itself, to the underglaze brightness, and the sheen of the clear glaze. I won't sell anything that isn't sanded on the bottom - this is important to me so ya'll dont scratch your nice wood table.

There will be a lot of new work listed to the website this week. People reading this will have first access as I cant express my gratitude for yall being here on this small email list. Also a discount code for 15% off which pretty much is free shipping too + some :) "Newsletter15"

My Favorite of the June Workshops

The conception of this ceramics business was done split between a living room and a single door garage situated on the street. During this period it was an amazing time to make and be a real part of the neighborhood. I would chat with neighbors, invite people in, and really showcase my work for people living in the area. I think it creates a great case for one day opening a brick and mortar shop too (maybe, it expensive and risky). Through a lot of growth, savings, and headache I eventually moved into my new studio in Lincoln Heights. It's a beautiful 1400 sqft warehouse with a large open air area with pretty much every amenity I could ask for. I really fortunate to have found it in such an organic way too. With the amenities comes some shortcomings, like how secluded it is, and tucked away from the action. My job is already fairly isolating as my head is down most days, in my own thought as I create.

Classes are my way of opening the gates, and showcasing what we do behind those doors. We aim to host one a month. It's difficult however, to take 20-30 cups out of my production and shipping them all. The team is small (my assistant Taylor and I), so lifting this task is a big one. But the reward is amazing, and Im honored to be able to host people semi-frequently and welcome them into the space we invested so much into and care so dearly about. Asides from the twice a year open studio event I try to host, it's a rare occurrence, and more and more these workshops prove to be so valuable to me. So heres a few photos of some of my favorite cups last month. I had the pleasure of welcoming upwards of 40 people in June, and some of the work is amazing. I hear often that people feel intimidated by the carving and painting, but let me assure you I began this journey equally unqualified, and the potential to create a fun and quality design is endless. The technique is simpler than you think!

Hope to see you at one of my workshops one day
